The Edgeland House by Bercy Chen Studio is modern reinterpretation of one of the oldest housing typologies in North America, the Native American Pit House. Located outside of Austin, Texas on a rehabilitated brownfield site that was once home to a Chevron pipeline, the Edgeland House was designed for a science fiction writer and his family. Embedded in a grassy clearing, the home’s green roof was built in collaboration with the Lary Bird Johnson Wildflower Center and features over 40 native species of plants and wildflowers. The layout of the property is split by a concrete pavilion that separates the living area and sleeping quarters. Take a look below:
