Situated on a narrow lot only 3 meters wide, the ‘Left-Over-Space House’ by Brisbane-based Cox Rayner Architects is a testament to what can be done with small spaces. Natural timber and steel were used as the primary construction materials for the residence, which offers a unique design element. In order to provide the ultimate privacy for the residents, large perforated iron screens are used on the windows to control the views out from and into the private areas of the home. Additionally, the iron screens moderate levels of light and allow for ventilation. The ‘Left-Over-Space House’ is highlighted by an indoor garden in the double-height common areas. The designers took part in the entire process of the project, fabricating each piece individually to make this one of a kind property.
